When Zach committed to Matt Painter's Purdue Boilermakers program in 2020, he arrived in West Lafayette, Indiana, as a raw, three-star recruit ranked outside the national top 400. Within three seasons, he developed into the most unstoppable force in men's college basketball, earning back-to-back consensus National Player of the Year honors in 2023 and 2024.
Throughout that transformation, Julia became a familiar fixture inside Mackey Arena. Traveling south from Toronto for home games and Big Ten road battles, she handled the bright spotlight with dry humor. Online fan bases frequently celebrated her emotional composure in high-stakes tournament games. While other parents paced aisles, Julia watched with an engineer's clinical detachment, analyzing offensive spacing and interior officiating.
She also played a quiet, firm role in navigating legal complexities around Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rules. Because Zach held Canadian citizenship on an F-1 student visa, federal immigration laws restricted him from earning active NIL revenue on American soil. Julia helped protect the family's focus, keeping financial distractions away from Zach's day-to-day routine until legitimate international and passive licensing agreements were established.
